Hi Everyone..

Not sure if anyone ever reads this anymore as it has been along time since I have posted anything. This is just a quick note to let everyone know I am still alive. alot has happened to me over the last few months. It's a very long story and if you are interested then I have written all about it on my personal blog. The address is www.rochelleandthegirls06.blogspot.com

Hopefully I will be back teaching in about a month. Look forward to seeing you all again.

21.6.06
A change in plans...we were in the hall tonight after the booking for the hall was cancelled. Thanks to Steven for making the trek to the classroom and putting a note on the door.

It was a cold night and taking the ugg boots and jacket off was a bit difficult. I must stress the importance of bringing warm clothes and shoes to put on after training. Once you have been sweating and then stop exercising you cool down very quickly. It's important to rug up after training.

It was a basics and kumite night tonight with a bit of tournament kata practise thrown in for good measure. The circuit warmup seemed to work well with everyone puffing at the end of 8 one mintue exercises aimed to ge the blood flowing. James arrived a bit late so while everyone else did some basics he was doing solo laps of the hall :)

Remember next week we draw the State of Origin raffle. All raffle tickets, sold or unsold and any money must be handed in next Wednesday night. Its going to be an awesome prize...maybe even 2 awesome prizes. An extra prize will be drawn on the night as well so make sure you are there.

Our next grading date is the 9th of July so be at class every week and always put in 100%.

The GKR tournament is getting closer and closer. We have started practising in class and will be doing more over the next month. At the moment we have only had 2 entries received. All entries must be in by the 16th of July so get them filled in and returned to me ASAP. We have a long way to go if we are to beat our record of 20 entries.

Remember...there is a comment section at the end of each entry. Please add something if you feel like it. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a great week

20.6.06

Tonight was a special combined class held at Wellington Point. Not only some of the Capalaba students were there but also students from Victoria Point, Algester and Wellington Point attended. With over 50 students training including 5 black belts and numerous brown belts it looked like being a fantastic class. Sensei Laurie, Sensei Ben, Sensei Des, Sensei Maurice and I were looking forward to putting the Redlands ( and the ring-ins from Algester) through their paces.
We started off with basics and moved into kumite combinations with the red belts and above
being challenged by Sensei Ben and his sweeping techniques. The rest of the class practised their attack and defense techniques (or as Sensei Laurie says 'being the Sith or the Jedi') on each other leading up to some sparring later in the class.

Kata groups were formed and some expert advice was passed on by the instructors. Some of the Black Belts demonstrated kata Kanku-Dai and then we moved on to the fun part of any class...KUMITE!
Everyone seemed to being having fun and most important of all learning something new. Sometimes it is good to experience another instructors teaching techniques which is why we encourage you all to train more than once a week. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and this includes the way people teach. Variety is the spice of life. Get out there and do some dojo hopping. Meet some new people and experince a new atmosphere. As long as you always turn up on a Wednesday night...I'm ok with it :)

The combined class was a huge success and we have plans to make this a regular event. Hopefully about every 3 months and in different dojos. There is talk that the next one will be at Capalaba and I have no doubt all my students would love to be there.
See you tomorrow night

14.6.06

Tonight's class was a bit different for a number of reasons. The first being that it was State Of Origin night (GO THE MAROONS!!) and we wore our maroon with pride. Brett even went the ninja turtle look with the maroon headband! The other reason our class was unusual was the fact that Sensei Ben and Sensei Issie took most of it. After me being sick for the past 2 weeks and with a very special event happening for Jess and I on Saturday, we both decided that we would take a back seat roll this week, stay warm and get a different perspective on our students. You guys all looked awesome and we are proud of each and everyone of you. The improvements you have made over the past few months are really showing. A special thanks to Ben and Issie for doing such a great job.

A big thanks to those students that have sold and returned your State of Origin tickets already. Your support has been amazing and Jess and I appreciate it alot. Alot of students have bought in their donations for the basket and 1st prize is looking very healthy. We have chips, lollies, rum, wine, softdrink, nuts, posters and even some footys. We might end up having a 2nd prize which would be great! We will also be giving a kilo of prawns to the student/family that sells the most tickets. Please return all tickets (sold or unsold) by the 28th of June as this is when we will be drawing the raffle.

See you next week

Last night was the first night in our new home...the Capalaba High Auditorium...and it was awesome. So much better than being in the class room. We had so much room and were able to break into kata groups and not be stepping on each others toes. We had 6 new students last night experiencing GKR Karate for the first time. They all told me they had lots of fun and would be back next week.

I said in the previous post that I would have photo's each week....but as I left my camera at home and forgot to tell Sensei Ben to bow out and take some pics...I don't have any new ones to put up this week. Anyway I thought I would look back through the old ones and see what I could find. Can you see yourself in any of these. You might be wearing a different coloured belt.

TRAINING TIP - It's Winter, It's cold...To prevent injury you must warm up before each class. By the time we bow in, you should be already warm. Use the time before class to do some skipping, some stretching or better yet go through your kata a couple of times. This is a sure fire way to warm yourself up ready to train hard.

Want to do more classes?? The Redlands area has a number of different classes that you can attend to improve your karate. We have fantastic instructors just waiting to help you.

Wellington Point High, Anson Rd, Tues 6.30-8pm and Thurs 6-7 & 7.30-9pm

Alexandra Hills Primary, Princeton Ave (j Block) Tues 6-7 & 7.30-9pm

Cleveland (Star of the Sea Parish) Passage St Thurs 6-7 & 7.30-9pm Sat 9.30-11am

Thornlands (Leona Kyling Memorial Hall) Boundry Road Wed 4.30-5.30 6-7.30pm

If you feel like a bit of a drive then you can't go past Sensei Ben's class at Algester State School on Friday nights, either at6-7pm or 7.30-9pm. Sensei Ben is one of our most dedicated and experienced instructors. Make the effort to try out his class and you won't be disappointed.

Untill next Wednesday...Have an awesome week!

I thought that I would make a blog for our class. It will comprise of photo's of the weeks class, handy training tips and anything else Jess and I think of. Don't forget we have a new monthly raffle where you can win your choice of a Canvas Gi or the complete selection of GKR DVD's. At only $2 each or 3 for $5 make sure you get your tickets so you can have a chance at winning. This will be drawn at the end of each month.

All students are invited to donate something 'Queensland' or 'NSW' to the basket (this can be chips, lollies drinks etc) and will be given a book of tickets to sell in their neighbourhood (kids, make sure you take Mum or Dad with you to sell them). Tickets are $1 each and it will be drawn on the 28th of June at training. All proceeds of this raffle will go towards State Team travel costs for Jessica and myself. We both really appreciate your help in our fundraising efforts this year.
